It has been gathered from Awka, Anambra State capital, that eight defeated governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have yesterday, Tuesday, September 12, asked for the cancellation of the election that produced the party’s candidate, Dr Tony Nwoye.
A defeated aspirant, Senator Andy Uba, who was of the 12 aspirants that contested the primary election, had in a petition made allegations that the exercise was marred by irregularities.
The secretary of the Dr Hassan Lawal-led Election Appeal Committee, Dr Nosa Aladeselu, informed newsmen that the panel received a number of petitions yesterday while submitting their report to Senator Osita Izunaso, the APC National Organizing Secretary.
Receiving the report on behalf of the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Senator Izunaso said that a final decision on the appeal committee’s report and recommendations would be taken by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
However, Barrister Nonso Madu, who himself was a contestant, has faulted the claims of the other aggrieved contestants and through a statement he signed affirmed that the accreditation of delegates was conducted through valid means of identification and that the security personnel deployed would not even allow thugs to harass people and mar the process.
